Hola a todos,

I'm so sorry for not having organized any meetings for the past two weeks. I spent the last week in the hospital, and the week before in and out of the ER. If anyone has any suggestions of what we could do to make the next meeting more successful, what activities we could organize, and what your schedules are like, I am all ears. I'm still recovering from some light surgery, and catching up on missed classes as well, but I hope that by later this week we can find a good time to meet, snack, and speak some spanish!

Gracias por tu entendimiento!

Hello all!

Thank you for everyone's interest in the Spanish conversational group, and thank you to everyone who showed up to the meeting two weeks ago.

The next meeting will be this Tuesday, October 17th, at 8:30pm in Sem II, building C, second floor meeting room. I will be bringing chips and some soda, and if anyone would like to bring anything else feel free!

This week's focus will be poetry and other works of Latin American or Spanish literature. I'll be bringing some copies from Pablo Neruda's the Captains Verses. If everyone could try and bring a piece of poetry or prose that they like, either in Spanish or about Spanish-speaking culture, that would be great. Feel free to bring copies to give out, or hard copies to loan out if you're comfortable with that, or just bring something to read aloud.

Hopefully at this week's group we can set up the following meeting, which can hopefully be a potluck-style Latin-music-swapping "fiesta" of sorts! Which I'm very much looking forward to.

I hope to see as many of you there as possible! Suerte y disfrutan sus fines de semanas.

Okay! So the conversational group for this week has been cancelled due to everyone's busy schedules. As soon as we have the next one figured out, I will be sure and post the information here in as much advance as possible.

Also, thanks so much to everyone who showed up last week, it was great meeting all of you.

We'll meet for the carpool between 7:15 and 7:30 tonight in Sem II, building E, second floor. My car can only hold three more people, but it's possible to hold more without seatbelts if we have more.

Gracias! Y nos vemos esta noche!

So I'm putting up fliers all around Evergreen today.

Email me or comment here if you're interested in helping, or at least if you see a blonde girl stapling things to campus boards today, give me an "hola"!

Cant wait to meet you all this Wednesday!

There's been a few concerns about transportation to the La Taqueria. Until all ya'll Olympia newbies figure out the bus system (which I hear is fabulous, but I don't know first hand) I can definitely fit four people in my car besides myself.

So let's do a carpool, meet on somewhere campus at 7:15pm, and we'll leave for the La Taqueria as soon as everyone who needs a ride shows up.

Thanks for letting me know your concerns! I just want as many interested people there as possible!

Hola a todos!

It looks like the best day for our first meeting is going to be Wednesday, September 27th. Let's make it for 8pm, and it will be at the La Taqueria downtown.

The address and number are:
La Taqueria
534 Capitol Way S
Olympia, WA 98501
(360)357-5028

Here are the directions from Evergreen:
1. From Hwy-101 S take I-5 N, then take exit 105 towards the State Capitol/City Center
2. Take a left onto Henderson Blvd.
3. Stay straight onto 14th.
4. Take a right onto Capitol Way South.
5. End at 534 Capitol Way S, it's right next to the Starbucks.

While La Taqueria is my favorite Mexican restaurant, I'm not quite sure if it's going to be the best meeting place for all future meetings. Like I said before, somewhere on campus might be a little easier for some of us, but I won't really know where that would be until school starts up. And let me know if any of you have better suggestions for future meeting places!

I hope as many people as possible can make it, and if the first meeting will not work out in your schedule, please let me know what will work, so I can arrange it for the next meeting.

Lastly, in hopes of finding some more "recruits", I'll be making a flyer to put up around campus with information about the group and it's first meeting. Does anyone have any suggestions for art work to put on the flyer, or possible places to post it?

Thanks for everyone's support! Enjoy the last few weeks of summer!

EDIT: I changed the time from 6pm to 8pm, in consideration to those who are taking the Mon/Wed Spanish classes at Evergreen. Sorry for the confusion!

So I finally went out and bought Julieta Venegas' album "Limon y Sal" and it's absolutely amazing. If anyone wants some good practice and likes listening to music in Spanish, I highly recommend getting this album. I also got "Guapa" by La Oreja de Van Gogh, but haven't had a chance to listen to it yet.

Does anyone else have any good "en espanol" music suggestions, both for me and for the rest of the group?

Thanks, and have a good weekend!

I've been taking Spanish off and on for about three years now, but during the past year I've completed the first three quarters of Spanish at Evergreen (and will be continuing in the Fall, anyone else in Intermediate Spanish I?). I've been to Mexico (Acapulco, Nogales, y Baja), Costa Rica (Puntarenas), Panama (el canal), Uruguay (Colonia), and Brasil (Iguacu), and I just got back from a six week internship in Buenos Aires, Argentina. My best friend and I are currently organizing a backpacking trip through Chile for Spring quarter.

Just gimme a quick "hola" to let me know you're here!
